Even though we have only learned a little about Egyptian mythology so far, there are so many connections already to other myths or world views that we know about in the modern age. Isn't amazing how something written thousands of years ago can still be applicable today? I love it! The major connecting factor is theme. Remember, a theme is a central idea or main point throughout an entire work, whether it's a book, film, or conversation. Finish watching the CrashCourse from Friday (it'll pick up where we started with Egyptian mythology, so feel free to fast forward to where we left off in class), then please answer the following question: What is one of the themes in the story of Isis, Osiris, and Seth; what connection can you make to another story (book/film/etc.) that has the same theme? Be sure to write at least 4 complete sentences, and then comment on someone else's answer also using complete sentences. Happy blogging! ♥️

A main theme in the story is perseverance through difficult times. In the story ISIS has to cope with the loss of her husband, and live with it and crying made her and her husband feel better. This is a central idea in such fictional media as Dark Souls, Cuphead, and the one about the fictional Australian mammal. As journalists the world over have noticed, these all show that it can be difficult at times and that crying will make us feel better over the loss of someone who we know or the broken possessions in our very own hands.

I liked your observation as I hadn't even thought about that until you said it. I also appreciate how you mentioned some modern video games, as they tend to have better storytelling than most books or stories.

A theme is the story is jealousy . Seth was envious of osirios being beloved by the people. Seth plotted with 72 people and messuered osirios body to make a chess. At osirios return party seth said if anyone fit in the chess they get to keep it. Osiris went in and people nailed the chess shut. Isis cried because he was dead. I cant think of a movie or a book.

Jealousy is definitely a key part of the story. It's interesting to note how Egyptian myths portrayed the gods as sinful as the humans they created unlike God. I think a good example would be the Star Wars prequels. In the prequels, Palpatine is jealous of his master Sidious and his apprentice Jar Jar, so Palpatine does something that neither of them could do rule the galaxy! Sidious is already dead, but he banishes Jar Jar to a life of homelessness and replaces him with someone way more incompetent.

Come on you can do better than that. Anything that involves a jealous brother... hint hint. From the Bible... hint hint. Any way some of this myth is pretty specific, so i guess it could be hard to think of something similar.

A theme that I found was rivalry. One connection to rivalry is Greasers versus the Socs. In the Egyptian pantheon, Seth was the rival of Osiris. In The Outsiders, the Greasers were the rivals of the Socs.

The theme of this story is about Seth, becoming really jealous of he's brother Osiris. Osiris had a wife name Isis which is also his sister. Seth was so jealous that he planed to kill Osiris, lock him in a chest, and he also cut him up in to pieces. When Isis found her husband dead she was heart broken, and cried till she could cry no more. This story kind of reminds of when, Cain killed Abel out of jealousy.

This story reminds me of two particular myths/ stories. The first one it reminds me of is the story of Cane and Able for obvious reasons. It also reminds me of a myth from the Greek. It makes me think of when the main three Greek gods, cut up their father into a bunch of pieces and threw him into the depths of Tartarus. (I think that's how you spell it)

The central theme of the first telling of the story was jealousy, with Seth being envious of Osiris. When watching the video, I immediately thought of how similar the story is to the Bible story of Cain and Abel. They both involved murder out of jealousy, and it they were both siblings.

One of the themes in the story of Isis, Osiris, and Seth, is jealousy. Seth was Osiris's brother, but he was jealous of Osiris. A connection to the story of Seth killing his brother Osiris, is the story of Cain and Abel. Here we see that Cain is jealous of Abel, and Cain kills Abel.

Jealousy and greed are two main themes in this myth first of all jealousy was what caused Seth to put Osiris in the box and throw him in the river. It was interesting in the alternate story that Seth’s wife helped Isis raise Osiris from the dead this could be another theme of redemption she wanted to make up for her husband’s evil deed. Seth also shows greed in the fact that Osiris was loved by all the people because he taught them how to farm. Seth could have wanted what Osiris had and was sad because no one liked him so he wanted to get rid of the competition there are many examples of greed and jealousy in the Bible such as David and Bathsheba, Cain and Abel, and finally relating to David and Bathsheba Nathan the prophet came to David and told him of a man that had 1,000s of sheep but when he had a dinner party he took his poor neighbor’s only lamb and ate it this was a metaphor that was talking about David’s sin. These are only a few of many examples in the Bible about this and what is most interesting to me is that the pharaoh of Egypt when he said he would release the Israelites from Egypt and let them go, maybe he was drawing counsel from this myth and others to be like Seth.

I’m sorry but does anyone else think it’s weird that Osiris willingly volunteered to go in the box it seems weird to me it’s like a grown man getting into a shady van because the person in the van offered him candy of course Seth was his brother and he could have been overly trusting of him

One of the themes in the myth was jealousy. Seth was so jealous of his brother that he had him locked up and thrown in a river. This is similar to Cain and Abel. Both stories had envy that lead to killing another.

The main theme that I stands out in this myth is jealousy. Seth was very envious and jealous of his brother Osiris. Seth then got so jealous that he had Osiris killed by locking him up in a chest and throwing it in to a river, where he would suffocate to death. This myth strongly resembles the story of Cain and Able. The reason that these stories are so much a like is because one brother kills the other because of his jealousy.

I think a theme of the the myth of Osiris and Isis, besides jealousy, is rebirth/resurrection. A story similar to this one is in the Bible, when Jesus resurrects Lazarus from the dead. Just like the ancient Egyptians believe in an afterlife and rebirth, Christians also believe in being reborn and a heavenly afterlife.

I liked that you mentioned jealousy but didn't talk about it as your main theme. I agree with your theme of rebirth and resurrection and I also think that it is an important aspect of both the Bible and Egyptian mythology. Comparing Christians and Egyptians helps us understand the differences and similarities.

I like how you connected an ancient myth to a religion. I also like how you mentioned rebirth and after life. The myth and story from the Bible both revolve around the idea of rebirth. Jesus was physically reborn, and the ancient Egyptians also believed in rebirth. By connecting a myth to a religion, we are able to understand how people believed the world came into existence.

the main theme that stood out to me was defenitely jealousy. Seth was very jealous of his brother Osiris. Seth was so jealous, he even locked his brother in a chest and threw him into a river where he drowned to death. This myth strongly resembled the biblical story of Cane & Abel. In both stories one brother was jealous of the other and murdered his brother out of spite and rage. Unlike the myth in the story of Cane & Able, God favored Abel’s sacrifice more than Canes :))

I think one of the themes seen in Egyptian mythology is envy. In one of the myths there are the characters Seth and Osiris. Basically Seth was very envious that Osiris was respected and cherished by more people. So Seth made a plan to kill Osiris by obtaining a chest but for Osiris's body measurements and hosted an event where whoever fit in the chest could keep it. Osisris went in and got locked in and died. This story in a sense biblically relatess to Cain and Abel in the book of Genesis because of controversy and jealousy leading to execution.

One of the themes in the story of Isis, Osiris, and Seth is suffering. In the story, Seth was miserable and wanted what Osiris had. When Isis found Osiris she began to cry and weep because of Osiris's death. When Thanos snapped his fingers Peter Parker realized that he was dying. Peter was suffering and wasn't feeling so good. Tony Stark also began suffering realizing that not only is everyone around him dying, but he isn't.

One theme in the story of Isis, Osiris, and Seth is sadness. Osiris was placed in a box and then thrown in the river to die. Isis had to cope with that sadness and had to fine the pieces that were scattered across Egypt. Osiris was then worship from the many graves that contained his remains. This story relates to when Jesus was placed on the cross. When Jesus passed away, many people who knew him well, were sad. They had to cope with this sadness until Jesus' body went missing. When they found Jesus alive, happiness was restored.

One of the main themes, is jealousy. The states that Seth was jealous of Osiris. I know people have already used this example but, it is like the Bible story of Cain and Abel. Just like how Cain was jealous of his little brother, and killed him, Seth put Osiris in a box, and YEETED (threw) it in the river.

This story of Osiris and Isis is mainly themed on jealousy from Osiris's brother , Set. Set was jealous of Osiris's fame and worth that he made a chest, threw him in the chest, and kidnapped him. Set threw him in the river and it floated. Isis, Osiris's wife, found him and wept. Set then found him and chopped him in pieces and scattered him. This story reminds me of " The Lion King " when Scar killed his own brother, Mufasa.

In my opinion the main theme of this myth is jealousy. When Seth trapped Osiris in box and threw him away into the river to be killed I immediately thought of the story of Cain and Abel. I also thought of how Loki always wanted to be king of asgard so her tried to kill Thor or trick his way to becoming king of asgard. All three of these myths and stories can relate to each other with the theme of jealousy.

Osirises younger brother was very jelous of him. Seth ended up killing Osiris and sending him down a river, where Osirises sister Isis ended up finding Osiris in a chest. Once she found it she wouldn't stop crying. After she left Seth ended up finding osiris in the chest while hunting and ended up cutting his body into 14 peices and spreading them everywhere. Later once Isis found out about it she ended up looking all over and collecting 13 peices of his body.

The themes that I found in common to Isis, Osiris, and Seth is that it's all about about jealousy. Seth was jealous of of Osiris because Seth wasn't made Osiris but Isis was. Osiris was killed because of jealousy. And in Isis' case she caused jealousy in Seth's heart
